Garden Survival Wiki  -  DIY Solar -  Solar Dryer  -  Missing emails

In co-operation with desertification experts, a simple wiki is being produced that will give clear indications on coping with arid gardens/small farms in drought-affected areas.
Please contact me if you would like to know more.
If you have a 'smart' phone you will be especially welcome!

DIY Solar Projects

It seems our DIY Solar technique often causes confusion so we are making a suggestion that might help!
If you have received a DIY Solar packet but did not proceed with a project here is an offer.

Tell us why you think that the project did not take off and we will send the pv parts and instructions so you can assemble a pv unit - like the sample one sent  - or assemble a mobile phone pv battery charger.

But it is very important, at the start, that just one person is involved!
Please do not apply if you cannot decide who will be in charge.
Too often projects are handed over to a 'team' and no agreement is reached on how to progress.

Drying Cocoa

I have been asked to advise on the solar drying of cocoa beans which can be difficult during a wet season.
Though no expert it seems to me that the best cheap way is done by covering the bean rack with clear plastic sheeting (like a greenhouse with ventilation).
Drying is even quicker if using solar-powered fans to keep the air moving.
When no sun, a simple sawdust stove could be used to help with the drying.

Lost emails

I have discovered that my biodes@bigfoot.com forwarding address has been sabotaged and not working for about a month so you would not have had a reply during this time if using it!
