Hi Karen (and readers of my open letters at http://dadamac.posterous.com )

You asked for more detailed information ref Building a team for the online marketplace - regarding youDev's  interest in an online exchange for practical needs and services among business, civil society, government and communities (like Craigslist but with a social ethos and jointly owned and operated as a co-operative).

To do something like that I'd begin by asking around within my network. These would be my starting points:

  • Senake Atureliya and his team at Pie Finance
  • Frances Sealey and Christine Wiltshire and the work they are doing about volunteers, and about alternative currencies and so on through the GlobalNet Meet-ups (with help from Senake)
  • Michael Maranda and the CotW people - see email copied below
I've written up some of these people already in Dadamac's network http://www.dadamac.net/Community/Network and am gradually adding more so that I become less of an information bottleneck.See
Hope that helps

Pamela

I thought I'd mention another project (likewise volunteer effort) that I think aligns well with what we are doing, and strengthens the case for both interoperability and for a broad inclusivity regarding kinds of entities we welcome into the space (and corresponding support for the various process complications or alternate processes).

The project is for matching volunteer tech (coding & other) support (consider UX4Good, RHOK, and other hackathons, and any number of efforts to pair volunteer tech consulting or services w/ NPOs) with greater attention to the "product/project life-cycle" than we've seen in any of these endeavors.

(Another project I've just heard is in the works is similar to this idea, but is about linking NPOs with for-hire technologists.)

I think there's certainly room for working on alignment of some of the Data Models between these efforts, and even some shared data-sets.

Wild thoughts all the time -- but it occurs to me that there's an attractor here - if an outcome of our system is collaborative partnership projects.. those are perhaps more compelling cases for volunteer/dev support than individual NPOs, etc.

This doesn't change anything immediate, just want to keep our doors open to these dialogues and design in open/flexible manner.  Also, as we go forward with strategies for development, these alliances will strengthen our own case for support (volunteer or other).
