Vanessa (and readers of my open letters at http://dadamac.posterous.com
Thank you for your interest in A story of climate change, drought, irrigation ideas and struggles to share information.         http://dadamac.posterous.com/a-story-of-climate-change-drought-irrigation

I was excited to get your e-mail which I have copied below (I felt free to share it as you sent it to me through a list, not privately) adn we are wanting to raise interest in COTW and the ProM matching programme as we go along.

pamela, that's a great storyboard of a scenario. made me think that it
might help grow momentum and sustain interest in this matching project
if there is regular output of your stage in the development process.
ie - you guys are in the stage of imagining how this system would
actually work and who it would help and how. it might be really cool,
with cotw's community of designers and video artists, to create a
short (:30?) animated video that describes the interaction. maybe
would help the public envision what ProM is and why they should be
excited.

I love the video idea.

I welcome it in many ways, partly because of the potential content and partly because of the medium itself.

Animated video is so rich, so dynamic, so able to express inter-connected ideas, to zoom from overview to detail, to emphasise, to put in context, to show how things flow and change, etc  - I long to get away from expressing things in words. Words (written or spoken) are such a constrained linear medium of expression - so foreign to the way I think and want to express ideas and emergent systems. (I struggle with words - I have always been teased for the way I talk too fast and interrupt myself and wave my arms around - I think I do it because I need to kind of place my thoughts and ideas in the space around me as I am talking so I can pluck them out of the air again and pull them together - or lay them out in new ways. In fact I had a boss who made me hold my hands behind my back when I talked to him - he knew it would limit what I'd try to say..)

I envy and admire you if you have the ability to express ideas through animated video Maybe later we will be able to collaborate in other ways. My head is so often exploding with stuff that I want to explain - maybe you could help me with some of it after this one, if we find we can work together effectively, and have shared areas of interest and can find win-win ways to make it happen.

I look forward to helping in anyway I can

BTW - have just been online for UK Nigeria team meeting       http://www.dadamac.net/network/uk-nigeria-dadamac-team -
