Hi Dan, Joan and other Dreamfish Value Practice Group members
I'm new to Dreamfish, and very much an ignorant newcomer as I can't attend the Wednesday introductory sessions as they clash with a "day job" commitment.
Dan, you ask us for introductions related to our interest in the value and currency topic. I am exploring some of these issues, in a theoretical and practical way, through my work in Dadamac. However, exploring value and currency is only one of many personal Dadamac related interests, and it is not a primary function of Dadamac. You would have to be well aware of value and currency issues and emerging patterns to notice anything relevant at our website, www.dadamac.net. These are simply issues that I am thinking about and so l am recognising relevant learning experiences as I go along. I will try to illustrate what I mean:
I am very interested in win-win collaborations and also in the way that Internet-enabled systems are different to pre-Internet systems.
I am intrigued by the implications of the fact that when we share information we keep what we have, we gain what the other gives us, and usually we create something new in the process that none of us realised before. I also recognise that people have different objectives when they share information.
Meeting a personal objective in return for sharing information can be seen as the information equivalent of being paid for traditional goods or services. Personal objectives can be many and varied, so I will just give a few examples - learning something, gaining visibility, finding people with shared interests, meeting people with complementary perspectives/knowledge, forming collaborative groups.
