Who are the Dadamac Learners?

Since I declared myself a Dadamac Learner (DL) last weekend ( see http://dadamac.posterous.com/are-you-a-dadamac-learner ) a small group of self-declared Dadamac Learners has emerged, and I hope the group will keep growing. By Friday evening we were up  to eight - one DL in America, two in Africa, three in the UK, one sometimes in Kenya and sometimes in Europe. Maybe more will join  us. We already have another possible dadamac learner in Madeira, and finally a friend in the UK who wrote (with permission to share):

"Hi Pam, I may be a 'Learner' but probably not a Dadamac one! Can I be a bit harsh and comment that you seem to ( snip) see social networking as an end in itself.(snip)  If you decide to set some targets then I will officially declare myself a DL.

I can see where he's coming from. It's true that I am a very reluctant target setter - I'm more of a "get started and see what emerges" kind of person.

Where are we going?

Despite my lack of clearly defined targets, I do have an idea of where I'm trying to go - and the general direction I should be going.  Often what is close up is very clear, and I take the next steps with confidence and enthusiasm - but as for the precise landmarks I expect to meet along the way - well, it's often only when I have passed them, and look back, that I see them as having had special significance.

A group posterous for the dadamac learners

Now that eight self-declared dadamac learners have emerged I quite like the idea of forming an online group - where we can;

  • share our learning journeys with each other from time to time,
  • give each other some encouragement
  • make it easy for others to see what we are doing and join us.
It's nearly a year since I set up Dadamac's Posterous as an experiment for myself. It is lovely and easy to post to and is easily read by people who just happen to come across it. A shared dadamac learners posterous could be useful too.

Next week I may try to set it up. It might become a useful space for us to write about what we are learning, or trying to learn. I did try setting one up a few days ago, but accidentally set up a posterous group instead - part of my learning journey. I apologise for the confusion my mistake may cause to the learners I invited to that group before I noticed my error.
