Fola buzzed me on yahoo today.

He was in Abuja on a course. As he was, unusually, in the big city he hoped that the connection might be good enough for a video link. We tried it, but sadly (though unsurprisingly) it didn't work - probably the bandwidth was not sufficient.

However he has loaded some new pictures to his blog - so I'll share the details here:

  • school children playing - it looks like Fola's motorbike in the photo and is probably from the school where he teaches
  • a young boy writing in a book - Fola is a teacher interested and knowledgable about ICT who says "I am looking for a way to improve the lives of people around me using ICT" - it seems to me that there should be some way to help him do it. I think of all the research projects that come in for a couple of years - just to vanish again, leaving no permanent result. Then I look at Fola, with no outside support, and wonder what he would do given the chance - and what difference it might make to children like Azeez in the photo
  • the computer i use - there is no Internet link from Ago-Are but Fola makes use of his phone connection.

He wrote more about that in his blog earlier this year on May 7th  "internet connectivity get more popular " (copied below)

Internet connectivity is getting more common in the village thanks to our GSM Network providers that has made mobile connectivity possible though not that affordable. it is not uncommon to see a desktop computer in many homes these days. There are seminars organised by government for teachers in Oyo state. i really wish all could get connected in my village and in that wise we would planning a free seminar for all and sundry in Ago Are and environ on how to get connected with the internet via mobile networks. I will be glad to see more people using modems and phones to surf the internet from my place of work and i will try all possible best to see how these can work out well

Fola has helped Pastor David to raise interest in computers and the Internet for many years in and around Ago-Are, especially in schools and through the Information Centre in Ago-Are.
