Fourth week in September at Dadamac September 29, 2010
A digest of what I've posted to Dadmac's Posterous in the past week
Open Educational Resources forum and looking ahead to Open Access Week
- September 23, 2010 - "Taking OER beyond the OER Community: Policy and Capacity" (The start of the debate, so I joined in.)
- September 25, 2010 - OER - the debate has widened (I submitted something else)
- September 28, 2010 - Open access week scheduled for 18 to 22 October 2010 - thanks Wayne (Useful advance information worth sharing from in the OER forum)
- September 28, 2010 - Open Access Week Webcasts September 28, 2010 (Information about webcasts sent to John)
- September 29, 2010 - Open Access Week New Zealand and Knowledge Resource Centre (more about Open Access Week and also starting to think about the Knowledge Resource Centre, the resources that we have created, and about sharing them more widely)
Looking for collaborators from academia
- September 27, 2010 - UK International Health Links Funding Scheme (IHLFS) - collaboration opportunity with Dadamac / Fantsuam Foundation (we are looking for researchers in UK interested in looking at our work with Sickle Cell Disease and the information gathered while screening 6,000 children under five years of age)
Other people we'd like to collaborate with
We often see information on the Internet about wonderful projects in Africa - many talking about scalability etc. We often wonder if there is any way that the team at Fantsuam could be involved in anything similar - but we have been down so many blind alleys. Dadamac Foundation does not have any paid people and we have very few volunteers, so it is hard to do this kind of research for John - We need help in finding out which Internet links are really worth chasing up.
- September 24, 2010 - Reach the Children - and Fantsuam Foundation (wondering if we should follow this link up - and if there are any potential volunteers interested in helping us)
- September 25, 2010 - Dadamac, Fantsuam Foundation and White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood (wondering about following this one up too - and deciding to share the problem again to see if anyone can help us find out which projects are worth trying)
- September 29, 2010 - Solar Market Garden for Nigeria - for Fantsuam too? (a link that we have followed up - will this one be worth-while or just another blind alley)
Fantsuam and Microfinance
- September 29, 2010 - Fantsuam Foundation and microfinance for people with disabilities (background on the microfinance work - lots of photos - and it may be relevant that the Solar Market Garden people like to use microfinance to fund their projects)
This item is relevant to the OER discussions and need for volunteers
- September 27, 2010 - Knowledge Resource Centre and Khan Academy, need for online volunteers (The Khan Academy has free resources that John would like for the Knowledge Resource Centre - but its not that simple - another example of help that we need)
Ups and downs
- September 24, 2010 - Ups and downs ... then onwards and gradually upwards I hope (brief thoughts after some mistakes and disappointments)
Dadamac and "doing development"`
Some people are happy with the way that "develpment" is done, others (including Dadamac) are looking at new approaches
- September 27, 2010 - Dadamac - the Internet-enabled alternative to top-down development (I keep needing to introduce people to Dadamac - so I wrote this)
- September 27, 2010 - Reflections on "Development" - by a volunteer returning from Fantsuam (I love what Cicely said in her blog about "development" - so I wanted to share it)
BroadBand for Nigeria.
- September 26, 2010 - Chakula interviews John Dada and others on Broadband for Nigeria ( BB4NG - John's work on Broad Band for Nigeria in the news)
Beyond Fantsuam
- September 25, 2010 - The new Kabissa (sharing news about our much appreciated friends at Kabissa)
- September 24, 2010 - [DIN] Mobile Apps for Engagement, Transparency, and Democracy (mobile phone use in Kenya - sharing information about other friends and their bravery)
- September 27, 2010 - KENYA: Poor sanitation brings misery to slums (These videos give useful background to the area for future reference - I have friends in Nafsi acrobats who teach children in the Kenyan slums)
- September 28, 2010 - Africa on the Blog - We Teach Each Other (Brilliant blog by guest blogger Deborah Elzie)
