Hi Doug.

Thanks for your reply (below) about "Liberating Voices! A Pattern Language for Communication Revolution"  which,as you say at the link" (is a) project to help understand, motivate and inform the worldwide movement to establish full access to information and communication — including the design and management of information and communication systems.

We're working together to develop one or more "pattern languages" which can help people think about, design, develop, manage and use information and communication systems that more fully meet human needs now — and in the future."

I have a feeling there are probably some useful and relevant things in there for me - if only I could stop what I am doing for long enough to give attention to them, which does not seem possible right away.

Thanks to your influence way back I have become a bit of a student of pattern languages http://www.dadamac.net/initiatives/education-and-training/pattern-language

In all the "reflective practitioner" work that I'm doing in Dadamac I keep seeing patterns emerging and i keep wondering how best to explore these ideas further, and how to develop and express them. If your emphasis is on patterns in information and communication systems maybe we can find some overlapping interest and a win-win way forward. Maybe  someone can help me to recognise which patterns are relevant to what I am doing and help me to apply better practice.

Also, with possible relevance to patterns, I have developed a diagram which pulls together much of what I have learned about the formation and facilitation of online cross-cultural collaborative groups. It is very simple diagram, but widely applicable. It is a useful tool for seeing things more clearly, from a socio-tech point of view. We use it often in Dadamac to help us see what is happening within a group and what needs attention. Maybe I could show it to you sometime, and we could discuss it, and see how it relates to explaining things as patterns.

Thanks Pam!

And perhaps other patterns are relevant also?  http://www.publicsphereproject.org/patterns

By acting as though the future will never arrive and things never change, we are subconsciously creating the future with the seeds that we are unwittingly sowing today. Whether by actively embracing the conventional "wisdom" that has created these socially and environmentally precarious times or by succumbing to the dictates of habit, instinct or necessity, humankind seems to sleepwalking into the future. Indeed it is quite plausible that we are creating the ideal conditions today for unspeakable disasters tomorrow.
