I couldn't get to OKCon 2011, so I appreciate the fact that the sessions are available via vimeo.

I'm just catching up with  [OKCon 2011] Dr. Michael Gurstein - Open Data – Louder Voices?

I'm a fan of Mike Gurstein and had heard that his OKCon 2011 talk had ruffled a few feathers, so I was expecting something pretty controversial. He was banging the drum on behalf of users and reality - but to my surprise it was at a fairly basic level - along the lines of "Who are you doing this for?"  .. "What is their real-world situation regarding ICT?"... "Will they be have access to it?"...... "Will what you are doing be useful to them?"

The good news is that Mike Gurstein is continuing to challenge those techies who are too focussed on "the pretty apps" and not thinking about wider aspects of use in the real world. The bad news is that he should still need to do so.
