This is brilliant. Young people presenting a comic drama they have created themselves about something that really matters to them - fun, humour, with a serious message. Worthy winners of Rudolf Walker's Inter-school drama award.

I"m giving a quick overview in case you only have time to dip into it.
  • The cast explaining the idea. It adds to the fun to  meet the cast before you see them in character - Around 15 secs - 45 secs -
  • Performance starts - around 2 mins 30 secs
  • We learn the main character's plight - Approx 3 mins - 3 mins 35 secs
  • My favourite bit - enjoy - (as the audience is obviously doing)  Approx 4mins 5 secs  - 5mins 30secs
  • What happens in the end..... Approx 11mins 47 secs - 13 mins -10 secs
Bishop Stopford’s School RWiSDA 2012 winning performance - great fun, serious message, excellent advice from young people to young people. I hope my grand-daughter sees it when the time is right.

I'm not sure how I came across this - except it was twitter.

This is what education should be

Not only is it fun - it's a great example of quality education in action. This is what schools should be celebrated for - creativity, teamwork, addressing serious issues, exploring ideas, understanding people better, developing confidence (not the dreaded regurgitating of right answers). When I was growing up I loved the opportunities I had to be included in this kind of "dramatic art". As a teacher, when I was teaching top primary, under the strict control of the national curriculum, I was so grateful for the drama period. It seemed the only chance we had to be truly creative and for the pupils to draw on first hand experience (ok - there was some creative writing,,, but that was normally very tightly defined).

Please spread the word

I loved watching this. I was encouraged by it. The Rudolf Walker's Inter-School Drama Award is a brilliant initiative - Please spread the word about it - and consider supporting the work of RWiSDA foundation

(A bit of trivia - To me this award is doubly interesting because the man behind it is Rudolf Walker - and I met him way back before he was famous when he went out  with my sister. I didn't know about the OBE. If you read this Rudi - "Congratulations!" - from Janet's sister Pam )
