Late on Jan 29th I posted an announcement up here, to dadamac's posterous, saying -  "It's the deadline for Rising Voices  Micro-Grant Proposals for Citizen Media Outreach today. Sorry folks that I have only just seen this announcement - but someone may still have time to give it a go". Then I read the announcement myself, and decided we should in fact give it a go ourselves. I came up with an idea, which I shared  with John Dada at our Wednesday meeting. I got some figures back from him and Kelechi straight away for the budget, with more details following on Thursday, and I sent in our application a couple of hours ago.

We had to "Describe the project you are proposing as clearly as possible in just five sentences". This was my idea (You can see what was wanted at http://dadamac.posterous.com/rising-voices-seeks-micro-grant-proposals-for: )

The project will provide equipment and training for people already active in community welfare and development programmes in Kaduna state in North Central Nigeria. The participants will learn to take photos and to share the photos online through twitter and flickr and will be introduced to video making and youtube. They will have continuing access to equipment, connectivity and ongoing technical support, after their training day, so they can apply their skills. They will feed back information about their community work,  They will have the ongoing support of Dadamac to feed their contributions into blogs and online communities for greater visibility.

We kept the proposal as low as we could because we know that Rising Voices want to to fund as many projects as they can. We asked for funds to pay for training and to buy a couple of refurbished laptops and a couple of smart phones. We only suggested a nominal charge for our co-ordination work as we are so keen to see that equipment at the Knowledge Resource Centre, and to see Fantsuam Foundation people get their training. 

Rising Voices will make their decision at the end of the month.
