Hi John, Fred, other friends and contacts in West Africa and in Minciu Sodas, and open letter readers

I am forwarding Kabissa's latest newsletter. (Fred - this is the one I mentioned to you.) This is a bit of an experiment and I don't know if the links will work (my apologies if they don't - but anyhow the main objective is to share the general content).

Three main reasons:

  • 15 October is Blog Action Day 2010
  • West Africa survey on online communication and collaboration tools - please help.
  • This is a great newsletter - if you are in Africa, or interested in Africa, you may like to subscribe

15 October is Blog Action Day 2010

Newletter says (and I agree although I know time is running out now - apologies for this last-minute mention)

"Let's blog about our right to clean water. http://blogactionday.change.org/ So far more than 1600 bloggers from 100 countries have registered to participate in the worldwide Blog Action Day on 15 October 2010, a global call to unite bloggers and raise awareness about the issue of water"

John and everyone in West Africa
Tobias has asked me to find more people to respond. Please reply if you can and/or pass teh request on to others:

Newletter says - How are Civil Society Organizations in West Africa using online Collaboration and Communication tools?
Kabissa and WiserEarth are collaborating on a research survey which seeks to update us on how civil society organizations in West Africa are using online communication and collaboration tools. It will take about 10 minutes.

Kabissa Gong Gong - October 12, 2010

Dear Pamela McLean,

On behalf of the Kabissa team, I am pleased to deliver the new and improved Kabissa Gong Gong monthly member newsletter to your email inbox featuring content contributed to kabissa.org by the Kabissa community. We hope you like it!

In our 2007 member survey, 80% of respondents indicated that they read Kabissa Gong Gong. One member wrote, "I believe this is the most useful aspect of the Kabissa Community, and I have found it very helpful in sourcing for informations and resources." We agree.

We intend to continually improve this newsletter as we also do with all the tools we use to support the Kabissa network. Please send us your feedback and ideas!

This opening section we'd like to make available as a space for members to showcase their upcoming campaigns and opportunities - please contact me if you are interested in writing it sometime.

This month, we have two particularly urgent items from Kabissa that we would like to request your immediate help with:

  • Vote for KABISSA CONNECTIONS on Netsquared.org
Between October 11-15, community voting is open on Netsquared.org for projects participating in the FACT Social Justice Challenge. Kabissa has thrown its hat into the ring with a powerful idea to build the Kabissa platform and we have a very good chance at success - but we need your help!

Click here for voting instructions - thank you!

  • How are Civil Society Organizations in West Africa using online Collaboration and Communication tools?
Kabissa and WiserEarth are collaborating on a research survey which seeks to update us on how civil society organizations in West Africa are using online communication and collaboration tools. It will take about 10 minutes.

Take the survey in English - thank you!
    Repondre a l'Enquete en francais - merci!

Thank you for your support and solidarity.

Founder and Executive Director

Blogs, News and Opportunities

15 October is Blog Action Day 2010: Let's blog about our right to clean water.

 Woman with Water

So far more than 1600 bloggers from 100 countries have registered to participate in the worldwide Blog Action Day on 15 October 2010, a global call to unite bloggers and raise awareness about the issue of water.

At 2aid.org, we would like to take this opportunity and participate by inviting you and our (mainly german) community on facebook to share your views and ideas with us. As a Germany based Non-Profit Organization we use only our social media networks, such as facebook and twitter, to raise awareness and funds for projects in developing countries. So far we have managed to build three wells with our Ugandan partner Emesco.

Water Scarcity and the lack of sanitation is still a stressing problem in many developing countries and a major cause for water related diseases. Despite all efforts to reduce the lack of access to drinking water by 2015 as part of the MDGs, there are still nearly 1 Bill. people without access to clean water. This summer, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution to declare the right to clean drinking water for all.

While clean water ist abundant and accessible in Europe, we also face serious water challenges here, whether it is the growing lack of water due to intensive agrobusiness in mediteranian countries or the privatisation of former communal water supply in Germany.

  • What do you think will change, now that clean water is a declared right by the United Nations. Will it have an impact or change the approach towards development?
  • Have you seen any water related campaigns or projects that particulary affected you?

Please join the discussion and blog about water. We are planning a sum up as a collective contribution for the Blog Action Day.

Here are some ways to participate:
