Hi Shannon and Laurie

Sounds like you are both studying (and have been studying) some really interesting stuff. It will be lovely to connect with you - even though it can only be a small part of what you are doing.

Shannon I hope you take up Laurie's invitation to join us. You would be every welcome. If you are an early riser you might even like to join us at First Thursday tomorrow.

Laurie - ref microphone (and second life) - you are getting far too "high-bandwidth" for us ;-)   We can only use text for our usual links with Nigeria. (dadamac day is an exception - but more about that some other time)

Both - There were some glitches today with the UK-Nigeria connection - but in the end we did manage to have our usual meeting. John says he will be the one who tries to come to First Thursday to greet you.  No promises as unexpected things can happen - like last year's storm damage, but he will try to join us:

Laurie - if I had known you were going to try the chat room I would have tried to meet you there. I will be out soonish, and most of this evening - but maybe you will still be around when I get home if you want to give it another try. We could have a "pre-chat chat" there together.
