local community - global networking

A message to all members of Global Villages Network

Dear Globalvillagers!

Thsi is the first time after a long break that I send a message to all of you. Thanks for being in touch with our network!!

I have still no real alternative to the NING, and I am thinking of upgrading it from the current 150 NING mini limits to a regular NING with more social networking features. We have 148 members now and I am always pleased to see the great potential assembled her.

If you want to contribute in any way to the growth and sustainability, please send me a private mail to f.nahrada@reflex.at.

The reason I write you today is this very symbolic and powerful videobridge we had last Friday with Russia. It symbolizes together with the Village Innovation Talks that the smaller communities of the world are really getting aware of the potential of synchronous telecooperation.

Most of you are still not on our yahoogroup with roughly 300 members, so I just quote the recent exchange. See below.

I would appreciate if you mail me privately if you are interested to help in building a really effective task group for a small city & village dialogue.

all the best

Franz

Managed to get a necessary message across yesterday:

http://www.dorfwiki.org/wiki.cgi?VideoBridge/Pikalevo

This reminds me of the eighties and Detroit, just in a different
setting. Calling all expertise and ingenuity of our network together to
make a difference - right where one of mankinds largest progress
potentials exists .....

a late Happy New Year to all of you, hope I will still find time to
write a message about the exciting developments around Village
Innovation Talks and Village Innovation Camp!

Thank you Franz
it was the interesting message and, even more important, excellent example
how to use technologies to be participative
and of course thanks for the Gleb also
it is clear to me, i suppose,  most of difficulties you faced -
я понимаю (я так полагаю) большинство трудностей  с которыми вы столкнулись

Algis, all,

я понимаю (я так полагаю) большинство трудностей  с которыми вы столкнулись

I dont speak Russian but Google translated it for me:  "I understand (I think) most of the difficulties you have encountered".

Well thats obvious. Its not at all even understandeable for many in Russia that there should be a direct connection between communities and muncipalities worldwide, out of control and censoship of central authorities !! If we want to continue to do that we must show .....

1st that globalvillages is not an activity that is hostile to anybody, but works on general win-win situations.
2nd that we can deliver real results! Thats why I founded and adress this network. I am a little bit worried about the almost - zero rections within the network and online community. Everybody can contribute in a way !!

The untapped potential of the Russian landmass for a development into the small, connected community reproduceable hundreds and thousand times, solving local problems with local means, is so mind-boggling, it could by itself leverage this country into the 21st century and give a lot to the whole world.

Every Global Village, small town, bioregion, that is connected in the global information network adds ingenuity and creativity to the whole for the sake of the self-containdness, autonomy and perfection of the small.

Its such a clear exit from any kind of aggression and competition, so vast and definite, that only a few people even dare to think about the consequences and most likely we will face a lot of difficulties on our path to come.

I think, however, that there is no natural tendency in humans to subdue or bring down others, its just out of fear and because we happen to live this way since thousands of years in all parts of the world.

Our generation was brought up with the message that if we continue this way it will mean likely destruction for all of us. But our politicians, economists and even scientists have not lived up to this message. They continue old games in new disguise. Ther is no single one - neither person nur country - to blame, except maybe the largest superpower on earth that could have made a big difference in the crucial moment of 2001 (Do you remember Arthur C. Clarke somehow predicted it would be a crucial year? But we have no star child to save us, we need to do it ourselves).

Global Villages is the single most powerful idea on this planet - at least for me and increasingly to a few friends. All I can do in my still ridiculous situation here is to repeat it like a mantra and connect the builders of the future.

Looking forward to the coming Earth Day moment on March 20th  5:14 Universal time !

====================

About the yahoogroup and the NING;

Global Villages (Network) is a network of people that think something called "Global Villages" is desireable and possible and they want to work for it.

Global Villages stems from the idea of a positive exchange of energy between the city and the village, the idea of a dyadic world where each side benefits enormously from the counterpart.  The core idea is promoting a  new economic logic of extending or creating kinds of "household  economies" to whole villages -  and have those empowered villages  cooperate globally, with cities as hubs of services and inventions, but also increasingly among themselves.

The purpose of this global cooperation is primarily the improvement of a local cooperative lifebase - virtually anywhere. Cooperation thus means exchange of knowledge, joint research and development, sharing network effects, but also direct buildup support out of a positive self - interest: the more Global Villages exist, the bigger the knowledge base, the higher the standards they can aim at.

* The topic of this list is to conceive and to prepare to build Global Villages - technologically, ecologically, psychologically, sociologically, architecturewise, philosophically.

* Each letter sent to globalvillages@yahoogroups.com enters the PUBLIC DOMAIN whenever it does not state otherwise.

* If you do not understand a term here, try the Glossary (http://www.globalvillages.info/wiki.cgi?Glossary) and expand it!
