Hi Everyone

Are you interested in twitter? If so join us in the chatroom on April 8th - the Second Thursday of the month - same time and "place" as usual First Thursdays (see end of the email for details).

Why Second Thursday?

On our April First Thursday meeting we ran out of time. People wanted to continue the discussions, but they didn't want to wait until First Thursday in May - so we agreed to try a couple of extra meetings.

Why twitter?

Twitter is our topic for April 8th.  John I, from Nigeria, was the person who put Twitter on the agenda in the first place, Andy (in UK) is active on twitter and agreed to come along to offer advice. However, John was delayed. Following the interests of people there at the start we chose "sawdust stoves" as our first topic. We had several activists so the discussion was lively and informative and we decided to leave Twitter for another time.

Friends on twitter

At the end of First Thursday Vijay (in Delhi) and Darry (in Kuala Lumpur) asked Andy if they could catch up with him later on Skype to learn about Twitter. Andy checked when he would be free. It turned out that his best time was the following Thursday - so  it seemed a good idea to meet back in the chat room instead of on Skype. This means that other people can easily join in. The thing about twitter is that it is a bit  like a club. If you know someone who is there already then it is much easier to find your way around and meet other people. If you start off and you don't know anyone who knows their way around then it is not much fun - and it can be downright uncomfortable. I found it much easier to use twitter once Andy started to show me around. He showed me face-to-face, but he's ready to help online as well.

Fourth Thursday

The other extra Thursday is Fourth Thursday - April 29th. We will continue discussing the stoves. So far we have just discussed the stoves when they are using various bio waste materials as fuel in order to create heat for cooking and for heating water. We still have more to cover on that topic - but we are also hoping to touch on another topic, which is how they can create gas which be used as a fuel for a variety of purposes.

Meet and greet times

If you do come to the twitter session you will get most out of it if you are there from the start. We will try to allocate an hour for talking about twitter. Of course - meeting and greeting people and just chatting is part of the pleasure of the chatroom, so if you want to have a general chat with anyone please arrive early, or stay on afterwards. We want to keep the main session for the main topic - twitter.

Not hanging around

If for some reason Andy and I are the only people in the chat room  at the start and other people are delayed then probably we will just leave the chat room and go back to our other work.  We will not wait around for a long time to see if people do arrive. .
