This bowl, spoon and drinking vessel were given to me in 2007 by participants on the Teachers Talking course. Fola has recently  posted on flickr a photo of when I was given them, and in that photo it is only possible to see the spoon - so I wanted to show both photos together here.

These items are made from dried gourds. They are natural shapes that you get after removing the seeds and most of the flesh. One of my Kenyan friends was interested to see them. He said that he remembered his grandmother giving him pap (a kind of very liquid porridge) in a drinking vessel like this when he was a little boy.

Fola is a wonderful visionary and innovator.

More of his story can be found if you search around at Dadama. c.net, on flickr, in my posterous posts, and elsewhere.

This is the photo he recently posted.

It was taken by Pastor David

The Dadamac outpost has been set up by Fola with no outside help other than a loan for equipment, and as a result of ongoing encouragement and "information support" from me and other people in the Dadamac community. There is no external funding for Dadamac's work, and material costs are covered by the individuals concerned. If you would like to become a friend of the Dadamac outpost in Ago-Are, or connect with Dadamac in any other way, please contact me -
