We met at British Africa Foundation March 26, 2010
It was a pleasure to meet you yesterday at British Africa Federation. This email touches on the main points of our conversation. It includes answers to your questions and directs you to some links that provide additional information. Please forgive some extra information not key to our conversation (which is included as I will also be copying this to some other people I spoke with). I hope you will find the information useful and interesting.
- Who is John Dada (the "Dada" side of "Dadamac")?
- What about the microfinance programme at Fantsuam?
- What about health services, and health education and training?
- There is a training college for nurses near to Fantsuam Foundation (FF) and John has good links with the college.
- Fantsuam Foundation has a support programme called Positive Concern for people living with HIV/AIDS, and has a health outreach and awareness programme.
- FF runs a small general clinic, a maternal health clinic, where women can also come to give birth. and is currently trying to respond to demand for a Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) clinic.
- More about the SCD need.
- More about starting to develop an online SCD training course for health professionals.
- FF is also involved in work for people with disabilities
- What about eco-building?
- The ecodome is an example of technology transfer and eco-friendly construction at Attachab
- We have connections with other eco-friendly projects and developments - please ask for more details
- We believe that eco-development in Africa can have wide ranging benefits (in "developing" countries and in "developed' countries too)
- What about a visit to Fantsuam ?
- Dadamac can help you to arrange a visit.
- Fantsuam Foundation is based at Bayan Loco, Kafanchan, Kaduna State. It is apporximately 2 hours from Abuja by a main (tarred) road.
- The holistic approach of Fantsuam Foundation and its various wide-reaching programmes are best understood by visiting.
- The staff and volunteers at Fantsuam Foundation are all very busy with its various community programmes, but they welcome visitors who have a serious interest in their work.
- What about collaborations
- FF is interested in collaborations.
- Collaborations can be arranged through Dadamac - which makes sure that the collaborations do not disrupt the community development programmes of FF and are beneficial to the local people as well as the outsiders.
- Is Dadamac only interested in Nigeria?
- We are in contact with a wide range of individuals and organisations in other parts of Africa and can arrange intorductions
- Given that John's community work is in and around Fantsuam that is where it is most effective for us to arrange and support long term collaborations
- Our long-term objective is to cascade good practice from Fantsuam to other sites through a variety of approaches, including visits, onsite training programmes, and the development of appropriate distance learning resources.
